PURPOSE / PROPÓSITO

Our local Chapter strives to...
  • Honor those who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of Spanish-speaking peoples;
  • Honor those who have made the Hispanic contributions to the modern world better known in the English-speaking world;
  • Encourage college and university students to acquire a greater interest and a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture;
  • Foster friendly relations and mutual respect between the nations of Hispanic speech and those of English speech;
  • Serve its membership in ways which will contribute to the attainment of the goals and ideals of the society.

Membership in Sigma Delta Pi...
  • Signifies outstanding achievement and distinguishes students of Spanish in colleges and universities;
  • Qualifies you to earn valuable scholarships and recognition;
  • Strengthens one's application for a position in any professional field.

Requirements to join:
  • At least two Spanish classes taken/concurrent at the 300 level (one of which must be a civilization or literature class);
  • A 3.0 GPA in Spanish;
  • A 2.75 Cumulative GPA;
  • One time fee of $45.00 which includes membership certificate and pin.
